Does anybody no which way the notch on a 11 hp vertical shaft briggs faces. Thanks

To answer your question we will need the Model, Type and Code of that engine. They are stamped on the cooling air cowl of the models with pressed steel cowls, and will be somewhere near there on the plastic cowl engines, possibly on a sticker.

Thanks Woodduck. Your engine was made on 17 October 1986, in Briggs Plant 11. This plant has been closed for some time, and at this point I can't even tell you where it was located.

To address your specific question, most pistons have a notch in the piston head. The notch must face toward the magneto.
