This is weird. My victa utility airfilter body cap reads "This top cannot be removed". So how do you replace the cartridge? It is white and has an electrical connection for shorting the ignition.

It does now - I cut it off with a multitool. The paper element was fused into the plastic at both ends. So the whole thing was a disposable unit or mistakenly meant to last the life of the mower. BTW my Utility has the same shroud and muffler as your Cortina but does not have a rear catcher. It has a cord recoil starter.

That is unusual... Any chance you kept it? I'd love a few more pic's, anything Victa I have not seen I like to!
I'll pull out the books and see if anything of the sort seems to be apparent, I can see this is one of the set ups for the G2 carburettor, as it was the only one (to my knowledge) that used that sort of Kill Switch, the slide type carby's just asphyxiated the engine, and the G3 and following carby's all had the kill wiring at the carby level.
Cheers Ty

As I recall it, this was a very short-lived idea of Victa's. One of its problems was that there was no way of visually checking the element.
Our family business used to get a few mowers with this setup come in for service in the 70's, and we'd change them out to a replaceable element filter; there were standard parts available to do this.
Cheers, Gadge
