Trying to remove flywheel to look at points. Closest sockets i have are 21mm or W7/8 but a bit sloppy. Please advise on how to remove. see photo's attached.

sgaws,

From memory you need a 13/16' socket to undo the nut. cheers2

Thanks Bruce without going down and having a look I couldn't remember what size it was.You will have to find a way to stop the engine from turning,if you don't have an air rattler then just put a socket on the bottom nut of the engine.
Once that nut and cup is off.A few things you then can try.I always first put my fingers tips on either side of the flywheel and pull up with each hand one then the other. So first left then right. Most times the flywheel will start to come off.If so just keep doing that.
If not you can try a little more force with screw drivers on each side, but don't go to hard as you can break the flywheel.
If that doesn't work and that puppy is really stuck you will see that it has three holes on the top.You may need to put a thread into those holes and use some kind of puller.
If I have to do that I use a harmonic balance puller.
Good luck any more problems then ask away.

Found a W7/16 socket did the job after laying the edger so i could soak the nut/shaft in penetrine overnight. Then a few taps with hammer on the socket bar and the nut came loose. Now another overnight soak before having a go at prising the flywheel off.
