problem mtd 38 cut sleeping in the shed for two yrs, decided to pull out and start. hooked it up to car with jumper leads o ccasionally wound over but mostly a clicking solenoid . qu clicking means , solenoid stuffed, poor connections , any thoughts or should i just buy a new solenoid, thanks any reply apprieciated, except school teacher types who are looking to give me a grammer lesson.

Sounds like not enough power getting to the starter motor.Are you using a battery or just coming straight off the car?
If your going to a battery,the battery needs some kind of life even when being jumped to.If straight from car then would possible need some sort of other battery.
These sorts of problems can be a pain in the bum.Could even be other problems such as not great connection within jumper leads.Dirty connections etc,might just need to play around and work through each problem.Hard to say without being there.

You could take the starter motor off and pull it appart and give it a good clean, you might be surprised how dirty they can get ,I have had that exact problem quite a few times on different ride-ons and all the starter motor needed was a good clean and while your at it give the solenoid a good clean and make sure all your connections are clean both on the solenoid and starter. Sometimes it has just been dirty connection or the connection vibrates loose,Cheers.
