Hi all,

I have a victa Vc sport with a g4 carby, it runs fine however the cable end connecting to the carby cam keeps popping out when the throttle is moved to the choke or off position. So then I need to take the carbie off disassemble then reassemble, a pain in the but.

Is there a trick to stopping it the cable popping out?

Cheers

Mick

One of three things comes to mind.
1.Cable could have a bend in it,and at that point ball comes out.
2.Cable not sitting in the groove correctly.
3.Ball point on the cam maybe worn a little to much.
Other than that I can't think of anything else at this point.
Check to make sure those things are not happening and let me know.We can go from there.
Good Luck.

good tips blumby , i was going to suggest a small bend in the carb' end of cable as its worked for me more than once . only ever seen one was worn so bad the ball popped out in the same throttle position and a slight bend fixed it . or maybe the clamp isnt in correct place to hold outer tight enough ?

That's just cheating vccomm bending, your naughty.I just had another thought it could also be the two grove piece that the cable has to sit in after the ball has been put in place. This all just reminds me of how much I'm not a fan of these carby's.

Are the kill wires installed correctly?

Even with the wires inserted correctly, sometimes I find this issue can occur where both wires have the 'Short' metal tip, as opposed to one having the long one with the recess.

The long one goes vertically, through the boot, and into the carby, and if the short one is all you have, I would swap it out.

Here is the set up you are going for:

The cut out set up also stops the slide returning to the point at which the cable detaches for servicing, as seen here:

Great advice, I hear it ping every time it comes out so I'll give it a tweek to start with it might be bent. I can't imagine the cam is that worn when it pings out. Which way do I bend it? Yes silly question but you have done it I have not. My tilt a cut that I'm restoring I noticed that the cable had a slight bend in the end and it didn't pop out, maybe they had a bend from new?

Mr Davis the kill wires shouldnt affect the thing popping out should it? I mean I basically can't close the throttle enough to make contact with the kill wires before it pings out. My cam also looks different to,yours , yours has a ramp for the kill wire to move along before hitting the stop. Is yours an LM carb.

Also your poppet valve is yellow, what is going on?

The groove maybe an issue I'll check on the weekend great discussion guys

Blumbly

My dad had a super 600 with a g3 carb and dad hasn't touched it for 20yrs I agree go the g3

if you hear it every time it pops out them its already bent too much , the cam should have the 'ramp' on it as it contacts the kill wires before the cable pops out .

clip on the air intake hold the outer cable in place , so if all is good there then maybe its bent from an old owner ?
staighten it first then see how it goes

If it's happening mid way, then the wires are not the issue, however if it's popping out when moving towards stop when almost there, then it could be.

I sometimes find some cables a little hard to seat, to work around this I tend to attach tricky cables during carby assemply, passing the cable though the intake, and pulling it through enough to be able to then use pliers to push the ball into the rotor hole till it clicks in, then fitting the rotor and setting the cable sheith end in place.

I personally have not tried bending the cable, if the problempersists at this point, i find a new rotor, but it is an option if no spare rotors are about.

The ramp is indeed LM (this is a google pic) but aside from that it's the same, it was simply added to prevent stopping problems, and increase cable hold, the wall at the end of the ramp is still there on the early models, and it's contact with the pins has the same effect, when the pins are removed, this wall can move further, which is how the cable is supposed to be released.

Hi all

I got a chance to have a look at this issue, it was popping out at the stop position so I dicided to bend the cable.

Boom doesn't come out any more.

I would highly recommend this method if the cam is not worn at the keeper hole.

Cheers

Mick
