G'day all,
i have a Mark 12 and a Mark 12/2 Villiers which has no spark.. they sure give a kick when i go to turn them over, but no spark at the plug?
I believe these old villiers had a bit of trouble with the electrics, but im not fantastic when it comes to coils, windings et.
is there anthing i may have to do/clean.. whatever!
I really am buggered if i know, so maybe one of you will?

Thanks,
Tyler

gday Tyler. sometimes the timing marks on these villiers are way out of whack. so dont just go by that alone. if you know anything about timing them then just get the the points to open before tdc. you can readily buy new aftermarket coils on ebay for them if its shot.
the timing mark (remember, not always) should point to tdc.

If my collection is complete ( then how come i keep buying stuff ? ) 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

cheers Gizmo, even if the timing was out, it should spark though. it wouldn't be at the right time, but it still would, wouldnt it?

Skiller, yes it would but you have already said it gives you a boot but not with the plug, are you holding the side of the plug (steel part) against the head or steel bolt mounted to the motor?? the reason I ask is if you are grounding the plug and not getting spark but you are with just the hi tension lead, then you should try another plug, hope this helps. cheers2

the magnet passes the coil and creates a high voltage energy build up in the coil.that energy can only be released to the spark plug through the points if everthing is lined up correctly. sometimes these villiers are so far out that the magnet doesnt even come close to passing the coil when the points should be opening so NO you wont get any spark. the ones i have here dont have woodruff keyway to align everything up. it has to be released by the points opening at the correct position. as ive said sometimes they are completely way way off.
so dont rely on the timing marks. ive had them as much as 45 degrees out of whack.
