Hi Guys,

I have come across a photo showing the cord bar used to keep the electric cord out of the way on the model 400 and Fairlight 400.

[Linked Image]

This might prove particualry interesting for Blumbly considering his family mentioned in THIS POST.

Cheers
Ty

Yes I know I'd be needing two of those bars.Very hard to find only ever seen one of them on a mower that I couldn't get my hands on.

If we could get a clear photo of the cord end, combining this with a few photo's of the mount, I don't see why it would be so hard to make a reproduction for your family in the interim, until an original is found!

I'm not sure I'll ever find any originals as they could be pulled off. Most likely the first part to go missing. It would be good to make something up. I only need to know how the cord end works. As the bracket is bolted to handles which my mowers have. The rod just slides into that. I'm just not sure the cord end works. If I could work that out making something wouldn't be that hard.

OK, well a little digging has revealed that the Powerhouse Museum in Syd has one in their collection, I'll get in touch with them to ask firstly if it is complete, and if so if it might be possible to request some photographs or to view it in person. I'll let you know how I go.

id start by getting a 1/2" bar around 2' long, put a 90degree bend a few inches from one end.
and the cord attachment seems to be a bow shackle??????

that should be pretty close, at least it will serve its intended pourpose.....

cheers, Daniel

That would be good. I'm also wondering,I wonder if it is a piece of aluminium pipe. I couldn't see it being made of steel to heavy I'd say. Yes Daniel I'd say you'd be fairly close their. Just like to be 100% sure before making one or two.

Hi Daniel, that would make a start, however we still need to get more details.

This section focuses on restoration for the purposes of collection, so actual functionality takes second place to accuracy, many restored machines will never see actual use, they may be started for demonstration, but the restorers dream seldom incorporates regular use.

Things like how the shackle passes through the rod, does the rod have a recess where it goes into the bracket, exact length, etc. otherwise it is not a reproduction of the original part, it is simply a rod in place to do a job.

Wonderful, Thanks Emmo, CH84625D. Sadly the arm end is not show, but the number is a good, solid start, again, thankyou!

no worries ty,
maybe you should give village mowers at ingleburn a call and speak to peter he really knows his stuff and could possibly have one out the back, or at the very least he might have seen one before and be able to describe it to you especially the cord attachment end.

thier phone number is (02) 9605 1100

Exactly so knowing the exact measurement and how the cord attaches etc is very important.
