Me again, topic of the Bolens cutter deck\belt. 30048s deck, i ordered the correct belt from Outdoor King, fitted it, when i tensioned it up the tensioner ran out of thread. i have had 2 other belts of different part numbers on the deck and they were even worse, i had to put a big spacer between the tension nut (that you screw up to tension the belt with) and the stopper to get more thread to use. that worked, but, getting the new RIGHT belt i thought i would be done with that spacer. No, not the case, it is tensioned right but i'm out of thread, pulleys were changed but they are the same sizes. there is nothing else that can change the "length" of the belt. Any ideas? i can post photos if need be.

smythie,

It seems that you might have the incorrect pulleys because they are all different part numbers which are:

item # 10 part number 1749911 idler pulley
Item # 23 part number 1749910 idler pulley
Item # 24 part number 1722713 idler pulley

Picture of deck below.

They are all original pulleys Bruce, i know this because they are the same as the ones on my 38" deck. That's what i swapped them over from. bit of a mystery really. I DID raise the front of the deck, just wondering if that may have caused it. On the subject, i am thinking of cutting the old 38" deck to make it "higher above the grass" if you know what i mean, and, if need be, different blade spindle housings to lift the blades up higher. the reason for this is: 1. the old mower is sitting there idol with a stuffed motor, 2. i need more height to cut very high grass when i get the jobs for that. will cutting the deck not work? i guess it will alter the airflow. i am basically trying to turn it into a slasher of sorts. Any suggestions apart from go buy some thing else?
