Gents, I am trying to piece together a 509 Utility from parts, I bought this one thinking it was the correct model but it appears to have been fitted with a later model motor (70 series with decompressor), and the wrong handlebars. this is the engine number can anyone identify this mower as it sits?, I think it may be a bitza can anyone confirm this the wrong engine for this mower? what engine should a 509 Utility have had in 1964? thanks for your help Paul

INdeed, its a bit of a bitsa, the handles could be a corvette 2's handles or something else, ill have a squiz in the green book later on and see if I can work anything out for you.

Im 99% sure its not original because the cowl has been cut to fit the decompressor. I can get the correct handles for a 509, so that is no biggie. But I need the correct engine. Vccomm, have you got a pic of what your engine look like? does it look like this one? cheers Paul

It seems to have the correct, flywheel, cylinder and carby, but the wrong crankcase and head, wither way if you're not after a concourse resto you'd get away with it

I am going to run the earlier 125cc engine now, as i believe it is period correct (as it is not exactly the right engine) but should be the same type. The 70 series engine in the first pic is gone, replaced with the one in the second engine pic. It too is a bit late in the run 1.1 million serial no (prob about 68-69) they should have been about 750 thousand in 64. Anyhow, that's whats going in unless someone gives me one with the correct serial no . will let you know how the resto goes Paul

One of those motors was indeed a 364 serial number, so that motor was put aside for this project. It is starting to come together, finally (lol) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/01/full-7282-32206-dsc_0013.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2017/01/full-7282-32210-14846122178631342142580.jpg) It's far from perfect, but I'm really happy with how it is looking Paul
