not that i can think of , should clear in about 5 mins . its been having a tough time of it though , might be just full of old stale fuel and we know they dont enjoy ! just have patients i had one once . took about 10 min's to clear and smoked more than 10 men , still going strong now though , swapped it for a thing of interest with a mate and its still cutting bush to bits now !!! almost trashed but engine is still good

Received a carby from Vcomm, installed it and the mower ran for a couple of mins until the petrol ran out. Rested the machine for about 2 hours, got some more petrol and now the same result as original carby. It starts, runs for a couple of secs, then dies. Sometimes it will run for 5 or so secs but usually its a couple of secs. Still has spark, has compression i guess as it fires up but refuses to run for more than a few secs. Time to chuck this out.

Recheck the points or try new ones I think.
I have had a rig that chugged like it was flooding and died. Yes it had spark but abviously not good enough.
Cheers

nice blue spark still ? as soon as it cuts out , you fitted a new condenser if i remember ? if not maybe a good time to replace it now . im not sure if the base gasket will do the same thing and i know it is tight too , never had a problem like this before so now it will be intersting to really find out what it is and why you did all seals to top and bottom ? seems strange it blew the head gasket so fast easy to see it hadnt done any work yet, try the old plug out of the other machine if you havnt yet , i know it worked it cut foot high out the back for 30 mins the same day

Everything is tight as you tightened it all up. Have checked spark straight after it cuts out and spark is good.

ok , so at least now the carb is eliminated from the cause . another points and condenser , a weak spark can blow out under pressure . with the amount of fuel that has been through it . by now you should see if its the bottom seal , did you check top one with a little fuel too, look for tiny bubbles . remove the cam when you do points it should be a reasonably tight fit but it does come off make sure they key is in correctly when refitting or it just stays still . the engine itself did seem strong

If it was the points/condenser would it have run like it did for a few minutes when I changed the carby? Didn't check the top seal but will check. One thing I did notice was that the fuel in the fuel tank had small bits of grass/trash in it, nothing major but there was a little there. Is it possible that when the mower ran till it ran out of petrol it picked up some of the trash off the bottom of the fuel tank and created a blockage in the carby?

could maybe be a blocked fuel fitler/stainer in tank , unscrew the fuel tap n have a looksee . said befroe it could be something really simple

Took it apart again and cleaned the fuel tank, not a speck of anything on it. Cleaned the fuel filter although it looked pretty clean anyway. Cleaned the fuel line and then took the carby apart, found some rust sediment, gave it a good clean with carb cleaner, then air compressor through it all. Put it all back together and slightly better performance ie it ran for a little longer but always with that sort of irregular rhythm like it's missing. Checked the spark, to me it seems like it's not regular ie not a constant spark. Still getting a loud audible blue spark though. I'm now focussing on the condenser and looking for a second-hand one to try out. I do have an automotive multimeter that will measure capacitance but I don't think I can use it to check my current condenser, anyway on we go ...

which carb did you find sediment in ? as it was clean when it left i checked ! so if it was in that one it came from somewhere so maybe that will be the last of it i hope you have a spare condensor ? all the good ones i have are on running machines . it should be a constant spark yes but they always seem to run a little rough . while you at it changing the condensor check the top seal too . remove the cam and some fuel on the seal looks for bubbles

It was in the one you gave me, just small bits of rust, i cleaned the carby out, it looks new now. Got a new condenser but when i brought the old one in they said it looked ok, they couldnt test it though. Top seal feels ok but i'll pour a little petrol on there and make sure. Running out of things to try.

just go through it step by step as we all suggest you do , dont try too many things at once . as i said , the carb was off a good running machine and i did clean out the inside before i sent it so whatever was in it came from somewhere check seals while its apart again , eliminate them from the list 1st then install the new parts , adjust points , ne need to touch timing as you did that already ???? a new or trusted spark plug , new fuel and try it again at least half a tank , put some pressure on hahaha .. i think were all running out of idea's

Checked seals with bit of petrol, no air bubbles that i can see. Cleaned and adjusted points and installed new condenser. Timing took a few attempts as something seemed to move and i kept getting slightly different readings for top dead centre, anyway i think its right now. It got late so i'll test it tomorrow.

New condenser in and it behaved the same way, ie starts and runs but then dies. Bloke at the mower shop thought the old condenser was ok but i bought a new one ayway, he said from the symptoms i had it was a compression problem ie not enough of it and said the decompressor was at fault... So i replaced the decompressor and i tried to start the mower, it took approx 10 pulls on it and finally it ran, a little roughly but it ran. Rested it, tried again and it ran again but with plenty of smoke. I'm not sure why its now working but best guess is that it was flooding a bit and maybe the greater compression has helped to clear it up? The big test will be tomorrow when i do the front lawn, if it starts and continues to run easily, i'll declare a victory, at this point, mayfair 3 tiger 3. Dave and others, thanks for sticking with me, we're almost there.

Been very wet here so couldnt use the mower until tonight. Afraid there's no happy ending. It starts fine, runs anywhere from 5 secs to a few mins and then stalls. Still has spark after stalling but perhaps not as strong as it is before i turn it on ie not as bluish. It has a stuttering rev motion rather than a nice continuous rev. Even though it stutters when it runs it still works fine. Full throttle still stutters only louder.
