I have an electric Poulan Chain saw. Model ES400. Purchased locally in Sydney outer western suburbs.
It is used for small jobs only as I also have a larger 20" petrol saw for hardwood.
The Electric Poulan saw only worked for a small period of time before I had a problem. (out of warranty though)
The "plastic" reduction speed gear which is directly mounted on the Electric Motor Shaft has lost transmission due to the motor shaft spinning in the centre-hub.
The internal gear wheel teeth which mesh with the out-put chain drive sprocket are not damaged.
Is this a normal weak component of these chainsaws?
What is the cost of a replacement item?
Has there been any "Reverse - Engineering" to manufacture an "after - market" replacement spare part with greater reliability.
I would appreciate a reply.

Thanks

Donald,
The reason that the plastic gear would strip would be because the chain was not in a sharp state and you put to much presure on the saw when cutting.

As to the cost of a replacement plastic drive sprocket it would be $35.00 AUD + freight. The part number is 530053048.

Bruce

Andrew M,
The part is available but would be at a cost of $52-00.
