I did a bit of looking around and it may be a type 5 or 6, around 1946-47 possibly, it is missing the cooling coweling but is mostly all there and original as far as I can tell, will get to wash it down over the next couple of days and get some clean photos so this might help someone with info, there is other case markings on it someware also.

Well after cleaning it up a bit I found the Type stamped in the case, you will see where Newlifemowers so you can identify what your engine is, still havent nailed a year yet, the 46-47 I thought it might have been does not seem to be right as the others from that time have got a different Magnito, so still stumped. the first number shows the type/model No, the second pic I'm not sure about and but at a guess the 8831 looks to be just a plant # as it was ex PMG.

jonesy, jap engine 4/3 B/P/89665/6. the numbers indicate, 4/3 model, B I think is the cc capacity, P year manufacture,1940, 89659 is the engine number and the number 6 indicates the engine is fitted with a non standard part.regards, john

Thats strange as the 4/3 on the Ransomes Mower seems MUCH larger?.. & looks to be older?

see it here...

Newlife, does your engine have "London" under the JAP on the crank case? as the ones I've seen all do but mine does'nt.

I just looked at your link again and I would say the numbers look about the same??? also noticed yours does not run a Magnito like mine and others I've seen, is it behind the flywheel? my petrol tank bracket that is cast also serves as the inspection plate on mine but yours has just a plate, cant really see what type of tank bracket you have from the pics.
