Thanks for taking the trouble to do that, aldot. Nice pictures, and because the mower seems to be complete and decently maintained, as you said they should be a big help to anyone trying to figure out what various bits should look like. Would you mind posting the model, type and code of that Briggs please? That will give us a year as well as engine details.
Is the choke operated by a connection to the back of the carburetor? The operating lever is normally on the front, as shown here circled in red:

Can you clean the cylinder head fins with a high pressure washer just by taking off the cooling air cowl, without removing the head bolts? I'm not claiming that you can, but I'd be inclined to call it poor machine design if you can't service the engine without disturbing the head gasket. Briggs has cleaning those fins on the list of items to be serviced regularly:
