hi again , anyone here had much too do with these machines ? and thanks for the tip on the tank , a bit of trying and found one that fits . put the carb back togehter with a bit of a clean , new rope and handle and it now runs . not well but it goes now ! seems the aluminium shroud over the engine under the coweling had melted the decomp' plastic fitting . is this a common problem ? it could be modified to clear better though but i'd rather not just yet . it hasnt melted the new one but it might happen again . a pic if needed as i dont think many have seen the part , i never seen one before either . thanks again

and at a second look blush seems tha decomp' is well away from ths shroud . so i wonder why it was melted ? no other damage anywhere and the cap was off the carb and small spring missing

Yea I would be surprised if the cover melted the decomp as that is a shield to hold back head to protect the engine cover etc. Maybe the decomp failed an caused the plastic to melt. The carby has no damage?

havent had much to do with vortex but ive been around your average power torque's forever.

the engine may have been run lean or without enough oil and over heated the engine and
the shroud let the heat build up
or as you say the decomp has failed or isnt seating properly and heating it up.

well we find out soon enough , a small carb prob' and allgood then , cut the whole place with it today and did a sweet cut too , wow it blows stuff everywhere ! if i could find my book someone borrowed i could work it out , i know slight different settings with the poppet but cant remember now and maybe carb springs too i think , when i find it i'll know wootbut i great machine all the same . almost better than old faithfull VC i normally use

Hi vccomm, here's a pic of one i've got at the moment. I've been around a few of these and they're not much different to any other powertorque. Poppet valve to "A" and springs probably wont matter too much, they'll just alter RPM a little. If the blade disc has been replaced with a standard type, and not the vortex type, then set the poppet valve to "C" as you'll need the extra RPM to make up for the lack of weight on the disc.

Oh what I seen that vccomm and I'm shocked. I did have two of these, but with the big move I had to part with them. So yes I do know a little about them. One of the biggest problems with them is getting the heat away from everything. In fact I have even seen one melt the alloy cover over the engine. The dress cowl was in no way repairable. It does sound like your was run hot as well. It does come down to house keeping, and the more grass and dirt around that alloy cover the harder it is to get the heat away. Does sound like you have some fixing to do. Good luck with that you cheeky bugger.
