Sorry I never replied deejay, the reason my thrust pad melted was because embarrassingly the nut at the end of my clutch shaft came off, I obviously never checked the tension of it after reassembling.
My baby is due for another resharpen as I top dressed my lawn to even it out, which has made it blunter.
Running like a dream tho, for anyone else would definitely recommend the restoration. Is still extremely satisfying every time I mow my lawn.

Thanks Dunks for the reply. Normally top dressing loam contains quite a bit of sand, which is the enemy of a cylinder mower, and will ruin your set-up every time.

Can you find out please how this workshop you use sharpens your reel and bedknife, and post it to this thread.
I agree with you mate; a well set-up SB45 will give you hours of mowing pleasure
