Hi. My 1977 Briggs & Stratton with points on my Scott Bonnar 45 won't stop running when I throttle it right back. Model # is 80202, type 0839-01 code 77081601. Any tips would be appreciated.

A couple of photos ofthe engine end of the thottlr cable in bot the stop and run positions would be helpful.

A stretched/maladjusted throttle cable is the most likely cause for the kill system not to work.

Don't worry. I seemad to have found the problem. I have just finished a refurbishment of the mower and although I did'nt touch the earth wire that goes between the points and carby, when I painted the engine it must have created a dodgy contact on the carby. A quick scratch of the paint in the area, now all seems to be working fine. Not to bad a problem to have when a second hand lawn mower won't stop rather then won't start I guess :)I'll try and post some pictures of my mowers in the reel-type mowers forum for anyone who's interested. Thanks anyway Joe.

I had the same problem on my 200 series b&s engine (the one where you pull the cord straight up)
i fiddled with the earth wire on the carb and it worked
