Hi from Queensland, I have a trash picked victa corvette 160cc high arch 2stroke push mower . Are parts still available and Can I still get a coil condensor and points for this engine? The base has a large number 1 on it and is raised but is part of the deck and not an add on . [Linked Image]

Needs a bit of work but I like the older victer.

Post the engine number up maybe I could tell you year from that. It's on the bottom of the crankcase, should be on the carby side.

Hi blumby,im from hervey bay in Qld 'the only engine number I could find is 31809956,and is there away to test the old coil with a multimeter before I buy another .I don't know if the 1is 1 or a /.

Its unlikely the coil will need replacing, does it have no spark? start with removing the wires from the carby, then try cleaning the points with a points file or some moderately fine sandpaper, then try replacing both points and condenser. These victa coils are quite well protected from the elements.

Thanks I will start on it tmrw and will let you no how things go. Do you have any idea what year and what the number 1 refers to on the deck it is part of the cast not a add-on?

I'm not sure that the number cast into the base means anything a all.It could have just been so many base to be made and it was the first batch. There is really is no records done on numbers cast into bases. However from the engine number I believe that it was made in 1980.Which would fit with that type of engine. Also I'm not to sure that the dress cowl with the Corvette on it is correct. It looks more to be a department store base.So the cowl could have been replaced some time ago.I did wreck (a while ago) a corvette that had that cowl and that certainly wasn't the base it was on.Also the Msaa sticker does point towards that as well.As Joe said it would be unlikely the coil would be a problem. As I have played around with many of these engines, probably well over a 100 and I have only ever had one with a dead coil, but it had been wet and out in the whether and visually it didn't look good.

Yes that's the one.The base that gizmo has is the corvette base.Yours is slightly different.Which really makes me think yours is a department store base.Still made by Victa, just not branded Victa. It would have had a different name on it,it could have possibly had the same cowl but it would have had a different sticker. Also the wheels have been changed, there all over the place. Is there any two wheels the same? The front two look different and they are definitely the wrong wheels on the back. The back look like utility wheels.

Gidday'ihave a photo on base. [Linked Image] this is oposite side of carby.looks like I got a bitza hay. You are all right about the coil . I have spark now after Joel said take the kill wires out .but now I have a problem with the kill wires . When I took the one that runs to the condensor out . [Linked Image]
I hope I'm making sense . Not quite sure I should do next . Do I replace just the kill wire or would it best to buy wire condensor & points . Thanks for advice I was pretty happy the coil was good . The carby has a black poppet valve unlike others I have worked on which is very limited. Is the poppet supposed to face a certain way like the white poppet. [Linked Image]
Some more photos . [Linked Image]

i checked my corvette for a number on the base?
it has a huge number 3 in that same position.
so then i thought may as well check others whilst i am at it.
low and behold my powerplus 160 has a number 2 in that spot.
i am thinking that maybe it indicates the shape of the front nose section of the base as all those base types look very similar.

looks like the monaro, corvette and corsair have the same base.

As I've said before you won't find out anything about the numbers on the bases, there has been nothing to support any theory.Anything you find will just be coincident.I have also had mowers that are the same make and model, even the same year and one had a 1 and the other had a 2 on it.I have and or had VC-160 and 125 bases with the numbers 1 and 2 cast into them.As I've also said you will probably find that there were a certain amount of bases per batch and these are the base batch numbers. That was always my theory. The Corsair picture you have there was one of my mowers and it had no number cast on the base.

What is the difference between plastic carbys like LM and g4 and are there other plastic carbys with different names and eg white poppet and black poppet valves the difference.anything on this would be great as I normally like to play with 4strokes and now I'm getting a few 2strokes from the recycler I'm becoming addicted.
