Would like to get hold of a piston ring set for model 100708 type 0128 01 code 87081305 for briggs and stratton .can I get aset of rings from another model that will fit this motor. All I could find is that is part number 490565 . Is this right and is it worth it. Enjoy fixing but the price could be bit high.

I get 490565 too, for standard bore. I got it from here: http://www.stevemyersserviceinc.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=PRO#%2fBriggs_%26_Stratton%2f100708-0128-02%2fCylinder%2cSump%2cPiston%2cOil_Fill%2f100708012802%2f91610002B They seem to be priced reasonably here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRIGGS-STRATTON-NOS-PARTS-490565-PISTON-RING-SET-STD-/280758359984If you are having fun fixing an engine, paying $20 including freight for rings seems worthwhile to me.

Shouldnt a quantum 35 be 12ci???
So the numbers should start with 12.
The quantums were all 12ci as far as I know.
Cheers.

roebuck's model and code are coherent, and lead to a specific parts list in dealer-land. There seem to be plenty of internet returns for Quantum 10 CID.

The 10ci quantum uses the same rings as the 13ci 5hp. or something. Its coming back to me now.
The early vane with the vertical pull start. Thats 10ci
The later one is 12ci.
If thats the case, I must say, quick throw the whole mower in the bin before it eats your first born and bites you on the arse. Those early 3.5 quantums are damn evil.

Hi Rodeobob, are they really that bad . I've got it running but only just and I have another which goes first pull everytime. Should I give it to someone deserving? Are they really that bad.

They seriously arent that bad, the starter can be a pain to repair if and when its needed, and sure they do get smoky with worn rings (but so does any briggs) My first mower was a rover with one of those engines and it was great until I sold it many years later, cheap oil made it smoke horribly but with decent oil it was all good.

That's good because I couldn't think of anyone. Just waiting on rings . The pull start is a bit painfull but ok now and the carby spat the seat out from compressed air but good now with a new one.
