Hi Dave, and congrats on another great score mate! grin

Having a Kirby installed raised my curiosity as well.... and I have found that the 1973-74 range of Imperials (ie. 14" - 24") all had the Series 70 Victa engines fitted. In fact there were 2 models of the 24" machine....the 'standard' and the 'heavy duty'.
This leads me to believe that your machine is much later...maybe there is a date on the Instruction Manual? This would be good for the archives Dave. wink
cheers2

thanks guys . it was a good score i think yes . deejay , nothing in the manual with a date . just what seems to be an update for a 4stroke ..move throttle control to slow and depress cutout strip on to spark plug and hold untill engine comletely stopped . and hints at a push/pull fuel tap too . hope this helps ? and looks like it had the kirby from new , the old guy it was from never said it was changed and he had it from almost new . and sorry i cant contact him now frown might be good to know more . the engine is missing the "id" plate too . but going by the wear on choke lever (moves sideways and sucks air ) it is all origional . just need to find some airfilter foam as no one around here has any and nothing new either ! .... just looked at the book again , i think you can make out it has a kirby on it in the pic ? it looks like its never been painted and is alpine green cheers2

Hi Dave, yes mate, the Kirby is original to the later Imperials....I just was hoping to find out what year yours was made. wink
And yes, you can see the Kirby on the machine in your pic of the Instruction Manual.
cheers2

Clark Rubber for the foam, it's just open cell foam. Although I still feel like they ask you to "stand and deliver" when you get to the check out. banghead
