Got the green one ages back.
Its a keeper.

Sent it off to my uncle while I was fixing his other mower and he wont give it back, says its a rip snorter. Its supposedly a 72-73 model. Supposed to have a G3 motor on it.

Traded in this orange one a month or two back. Dont let the paint fool you. Its a bit past it but I can rat some bits off it. This has a G2 motor on it.

Cool I don't have any of those ones. In-fact I don't think I've ever had one at all.

I picked up one of these alloy based utilities, thought it had a set of mismatched wheels on it but they seem to be correct going by the other example above. New style caps on the rear and older style V caps on the front. Not sure on mufflers though, both models above have the long style but mine has the newer through the base type.

That's neat as a pin. I never knew of the existence of this model. Classic not (much) plastic! I like the 8" rubber on the back.
Strange looking chute to the side. Could you explain that?

Both styles of wheel and wheelcap were sold along side each other from the 60s to the early 80s. The 'V' cap wheels were full nylon bearing wheels generally used on cheaper models and the larger diameter caps with the radial ribs at the edges had one set of ball bearings in them, but later could come with full nylon bearings once they stopped making the 'V' wheels.
What is unusual here is combining both styles on the one mower. I think they chose the nylon type wheels for the front because they have more rubber in them and were probably considered better suited to tougher slashing work, and matching the wheels wasn't as important to buyers of this type of "rough and ready" model of mower.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

With the mower being a side chute, Victa fitted a safety flap come windrower/catcher support over the outlet. What I find interesting is that you could fit a side catcher, I wonder what the catcher looked like?

Probably had a wheel attached.

G'day Paul and Mowerfreak

I love these machines!
The first safe Victa Utility!

The catcher was the catcher originally developed in the 1960s for the Sheerline and 4-star.
It's true laugh

It didn't have a side wheel.
It looks similar to this ... HERE.

I hope to cover this machine this year.

Cheers

Back in the early seventies I had a Hurricane toecutter as my mower. I wanted a catcher, so I bought a Pope with a side catcher that had a rod through the side of the motor for $12, fitted the Hurricane motor to it. Used that mower for well over 20 years till I decided to shout myself a brand new mower, bought a Victa with a Honda motor on it. Bad move, I should have stuck with the old mower with a side catcher, it had served me well for so many years
