G'day all,
I'm an absolute novice at this - both forums and working on lawn mowers. A couple of years ago I picked up a Scott Bonnar mower from a verge side collection - it just looked too good for any one to scrap - it sat in a corner of the shed for a couple of years and gathered dust - but pulled it out last weekend and thought it might be worth having a go at getting it going again?
Have found the model number etc (61202 0144 01 6825401) so have been able to work out when the motor was built and the mower details are 45 00603 - so am guessing it is the 603rd model 45 built.
At this stage haven't had a chance to take photo's but will (hopefully) get a chance in the next couple of weeks - but have been reading some of the posts etc on this forum and thought that I would join up and introduce myself.
The carby really looks like it needs a rebuild, the exhaust is really rusted in place and a couple of other challenges are very obvious - am really looking forward to spending a bit of time getting to learn a lot more about it.
Look forward to seeking advice and tips as I endeavour to get the this classic mower working again.
Regards,
RichardMc

Hi Richard, welcome to Outdoorking. There are many Scott Bonnar 45 enthusiasts here, so you've come to the right place. Please start a thread in the Scott Bonnar reel mower forum, with lots of pictures, when you are ready to start your repair or restoration program on your mower. By the way there seems to be a digit missing from the engine code you posted.

Hello Grumpy - thanks for the reply - just checked the numbers and had a couple back to front - 61202 0144 01 6804251 is what it reads - still trying to find my way around the site - will work out how to start a thread and post pictures etc in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Richard, that is a 6 cubic inch (100 cc) engine of the second design generation, with a horizontal crankshaft, Pulsa-Jet carburetor, plain main bearings and a rewind starter. It was made on 25 April 1968 - your mower was probably made just a few months later. Here is the illustrated parts list for your engine: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/Z6jmsHVJ1DajI.pdfWhen you start your thread and post pictures, our SB45 guru, Deejay, will be able to help you assess the machine's condition and what you might want to do about it.

Hi Richard and a warm welcome to the forum, its great to have another Scott Bonnar Model 45 owner on board! Re: the age of your machine, with the engine being dated as April 1968 it would be an early machine possibly being manufactured in Thebarton South Australia in late '68. Please note there is no correlation between the machine serial number and the age of the machine as they did not run sequentially. Looking forward to your post and the pics. Once again Richard, to OutdoorKing
Please do not PM me asking for support. Please post your questions in the appropriate forums, as the replies it may receive may help all members, not just the individual member. Kindest Regards, Darryl

Many thanks - I'll be out of contact for a week or two - it's a pity but work does have a habit of getting in the way of enjoyment.

I will be out of contact for a while as I am away working, but will back in touch when I can.

Hello all, I just couldn't keep away from the site - I'm keen to start a post but as I'm new to using a forum I need a bit of help getting started in setting it all up and making certain that I do things right - some hints and direction will be much appreciated.
Regards Richard
