Did you put thinners in the hammertone? As if you use a different mixture you then change the texture of the hammertone. That will make it look different.Looks good anyway, but it will change it a lot.Not sure if that's what you did but it looks more hammertoney.

Hi guys, yes it does look a bit like hammertone just at the front...that effect is sometimes called 'fish-eye' and can be caused by handling the article with bare hands just prior to painting...the oils from bare hands will transfer to the article. Any trace of oil, silicone or grease will cause fish-eye. wink
The solution is to always wipe down with Prepsol (Wax and Grease remover) and allow that to dry off completely prior to painting, and use clean gloves if you have to handle it.
I agree with Jeffrey mate....looks good! grin
cheers2

When I use prepsol I alway have to clean rags one to wipe the prepsol and one to clean of what it has removed. Then don't touch or even breathe on. Seems to work for me.

The paint can have a different affect with even the slightest change of the enviroment around it when being sprayed, When I worked in a shop that rebuilt electric motors The ones sprayed in the afternoon when it was quite hot outside would have more hammertone affect than the ones I sprayed in the mornings,

Condensation or humidity is what that would have been.Yes that can affect the quality and colour of paint but I don't think this is what has happen here.It appears to have more of a hammertone affect.Possible less thinners mixed into it.

With hammer tone if you are spraying it you have to use the right thinners too.

what type of thinners ? the base was painted flat on a table , i made the mistake of hanging the ring while i did the 18 base blush, its why it looks more hammery at the front , it ran/sagged . still working out the best way . i'm not a painter by any stretch , but fun trying though . it was a realy warm day and left them in the sun a while . when the ute' was done it was a lot cooler . same mix too 50-50 . GP type thinners

I've only used GP as well.Maybe not at the same amount.I think I mix it at 75% to 25%.The 25 being the thinners.I paint hanging up as flat on tables can pick dust and other junk.

Well yes 50/50 way to thin. You would have almost thinned out the hammertone it would have almost been paint. Some hammertones you can just apply without thinners (some that is,not all). So I just do it as 75% hammertone to 25% thinner.Just so it can flow through the gun without blobling everywhere.I dont know even do primer as a 50/50 it thins that down to much as well.Try it that way next time you'll be suprised at the differents.Actully when I seen the mower painted I didn't even think you used hammertone.
