hey all i have been pleasantly disappointed wile pulling down several motors off the super 24 series for worn bearings and crankshafts floating in the housing and wearing into the casing just wondering has anyone come across this wear in standard 160 motors or is this wear inflicted from the force of a belt pulling on the shaft ?

G'day Mitch,
I use mine alot, they do real work in goat conutry down the back.
I am interested in your findings. I havnt noticed this yet.

I have had all kinds of tensions on these belts in the past,.
I try to find the happy medium.
Too loose & the inertia isnt there for starting & rips the cord from your hands too tight could give engine wear.

I am still not sure about the suggested tightening procedure on the sticker.
Why are the washers there??
In my case if I hit something I like the blade to swing back & the belt to give, so I lean towards a looser belt tension.

hey there ,
your happy medium is best once you have done it a few times its easy as you know , they kick back if they are loose and they lack power if they are to tight . the wear i believe is caused by the force on standard ball bearings, take car wheel bearings for example its designed with "tapered" bearings to take radial load as well "thrust load" where as a standard ball bearing is only suited to thrust although i must say it isnt taking the weight of a car like a wheel bearing does, it may just be a symptom of over tightening the belt. if a full crank does this imagine what a power torque will do... i was totally gobsmacked that the muffler was full of swarf from the crankcase.
