Hello. Have pulled down a power torque engine, piston is gone. My question is: Can I hone this bore? Also Can anyone tell me the difference between these two blocks. I have always wondered. Thanks much. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7872-exhaust.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7873-intake.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7874-zz_014.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7875-zz_020.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7876-zz_019.jpg)

The difference between the blocks is one is a later model type where they used just one casting for the keystart/non keystart type, essentially the same engine though.
That bore would probably hone okay, as it would be mostly alloy on bore from the piston, if its cratched more than that though I would personally hoik it into the scrap bin.

Thanks Joe, that is great.
I will hone it and put up an image of the results.
Yes, I think that the block held up well considering the shape of the piston.
The back story on this engine is, the previous owner got the mower from his dad in Rockhampton. They had the machine for 25 years.
I have seen a newer one of these with the piston looking much the same, the bore didnt hold up aswell. Had more scoring.
I havnt played with a key start yet. So the one with the plastic piece is the later type? To accomodate the starter, and the flywheel has teeth, I think I get it now. Cheers

Yes but they never drilled or tapped the holes for the starter, more of a sales gimmick than anything, I have yet to have a good experience with one...

Personally I would just get another block.I'm not sure honing will save it.It is more of a re-bore,then the cost would come into it.I have tried to hone one that wasn't as bad as that and it couldn't be saved,by all means try but I don't think it will work.Good luck though.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Thanks fella's, I realise it is hard to make a call from your distance, I really appreciate any advice. I gave it a light hone to see what I was left with. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-4730-7885-zz_016.jpg)
