The first series Model 5.Can't remember and don't have access to my books or paper work but I think it may be a series 2 engine on it.Don't quote me on that as I said I don't have my books or paper work,so I could be wrong. Either way good find and yes they don't take much to run.If it is noisy it maybe doesn't have a baffler in the muffler.Just beware if you decide to pull it apart under the base where the engine bolts to the chassis there is a metal plate, under that if you find a fibre gasket just be careful as the original ones were made of asbestos.I just put them in a plastic bag and bin them straight away, trying not to to create any dust from it.

thanks for the tip jeffery . sounds like it dont have any sort of muffler left at all ! but it was great to hear it running though . siezed hight adjuster too just for something different , i didnt know these were all alloy except the tank . can you make out the fuel tap ? i dont think its correct , fouls the throttle cable . or were they soooooooo close it could happen ? cheers , Dave

No right fuel tap it's just around the wrong the way.The part that pulls out should be facing backwards.Height adjusters are always the first thing to stop working. Will need to be pulled apart cleaned and regressed easy to do just takes time. There is a baffle that goes into the muffler (on the underside) maybe it's not in there.Just take bolt out from muffler on engine and it will pull out, then you should see the baffle,if it's there.I had one that had the baffle missing and it was bloody loud.

It's just coming into lawn mower season so people are pulling them out of there sheds and think now is the time to sell. You do get less for mowers in winter,so that's why you see more at this time of year.

NOOOOOOO !!! . just a few easy to sell ones . the utility stays . just been out and had a look at a few things , gasket is gone between flange and alloy do they have a gasket between alloy finned part and base too ? and most of the baffle's there . i thought it was cracked but only looked like a piece missing under the 5 washers that were holding it on ! so allgood so far . engine is on its way for the ute' , it looks like i havto split the cases too , saw some weeping around the joint . so it looks like this is a tear down too but see how it goes when its run a little 1st , all sorts of stuff all over it when it got home

No it's not the same as a Model 4 base, but it's similar. You will find on the opposite site of where the edger attachment is the model 4 will have two bolt holes on the base.Yes there is a gasket for the muffler to base,I think Bruce has them in he's store. Also don't try to make any scene of the number it won't make any scene. As by the time the model 5's came out they were selling like hot cakes, and I don't think there was any sequence it was more about getting them out the door.

Model 4 base looks more like this. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7880-100_0892.jpg) As you can it has the bolts on both sides for the guards that go on the sides. That's about the only difference. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7881-100_0882.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7882-100_0884.jpg)
