Wondering if anyone has knows the current draw for a Briggs starter on a 28 series 11.5HP?

I rewired my old Greenfield which didn't have a fuse in the wiring and I probably shouldn't have but I put one in.

I don't have the answer aldot, but a 1.5 or 2 litre car starter motor draws around 150 amps. If you just scale that down in proportion to the engine capacity, you will probably be close. However a fuse in a starter circuit sounds likely to cause problems rather than solve them. It will cause a voltage drop, and applying low voltage to starter motors often results in them locking up rather than rotating the engine, then the starter motor and wiring both overheat. (Fuses are rated by their burn-out current, not voltage drop, and fuse blocks are even worse.)

I do not know of any vehicle or machine that has a fuse in the main power wire from the battery to the starter motor. Perhaps a shut off but not a fuse.
It is a wire that is well insulated and routed for just this reason.

On something like what you say, i would guess it could be 40amps or more.

It is common to have fuses in the other wiring or power feeds. Say the wire that powers the solenoid. It should not draw much at all.
