Well that doesn't help work out how it got there.There goes my moving from Australia theory.Don't feel stupid for asking questions,my feeling is the only stupid questions are the unasked questions.After all that's what this place is for.OK the purpose of the air cleaner is to filter the air so that no junk goes into the combustion chamber,like dirt etc as that will put scores in the bore.The top of the air cleaner will spin around as it has a lip around the top to hold the cap on.If you just wriggle it around and pull upwards at the same time it will pop off.Just be careful as it could be a bit brittle.That's how I do it anyway.After you get it off there should be a filter element in there.Most likely it will be very very dirty.You can get news ones but over there I'm not sure where you would go.The best way is Bruce has a store here where you can get the elements and if the air filter box is damaged he has new one's here (Which when I start restoring my mowers with these I will purchase)(Well at least I think he has those one.I know he has the older ones.May have to have a look).I'm sure Bruce will have no problems sending them to you.You can get them from eBay and get them sent over,but it would be more of a hassle and I think the eBay ones are not as cheap.Bruce has some very reasonable prices.Hope that helps.OH yeah as far as your starter cord sounds like it needs rewinding.

Just thinking, that machine was sold and possibly serviced by Kenneth Garland in Forfar...he or another distributor may have imported it from a another dealer here in Oz, not from Victa themselves; that would explain the different code on the air-filter cap. Or, Victa might have simply run out of the export stickers and stuck on what they had....Which ever way, it was definitely imported into Scotland. wink

PS....can one of the Victa gurus give him some advice on how to rewind the starter please... wink

OK, Firstly, to repair the cord:

You will notice a small notch in the drum that cord winds onto (See picture below) if you pull the cord bach through the hole (do not dissasemble the starter) in the top of the cowl, enough to have it pass out of this notch, you should be able to increase the spring tension by winding it around 2-3 times in an anti clockwise direction.

THIS VIDEO should also be helpful, just remember to go anti-clockwise instead, as your starter is reversed to the one in the video.

I think it's likeley that this model is exactly how victa intended, IE, the stickers and location are correct.

The export only models may well relate to machines that were very spe3cific to their export markets, and required different parts codes, however this mower is practically identical to a VC-Sports, aside from a couple of slight variations that I have found relate to the export version of the sports.

I Imagine that for the export version of the sports, they felt no need to re-catagorise the mower, they simply added the export requirmentrs (One of which I have found, is that interesting spark plug boot, it contains a supressor) and gave it a different sticker.

Here is a little more info.

I'm starting to beleive that there were two types of exports, the first, export only models, models which were not specifically based on australian models, or variated from the original design substantially.

Such as this export model from 2003, by memeory, this was in Brazil.

The second type, which would not have fallen into the export only catagory, and therefore not have been given it's own coding, is where an australian model has only been given slight modifications to be sold overseas, usually due to requirements for certain countries, such as the current requirement in england for muffler sheilds, larger stone gaurding on chutes, blade brakes and bump sheilds:

The above mower is still recognisable as a professional utility, it simply has some additions and modifications.

Here is one of the pages of the parts list for the 1973 VC-sports, this is the only part of the list where I could find reference to exort modifications on this model, and one of them, the HT lead with supressor, seems to fit the pictures above, where the boot seems much larger than we would normally see on this machine.

So my theory is that we are looking not at an export model Victa, but at an export version of the VC-sports, which has simply been re-branded for export, possibly to help promote the engine size in the name, where the mower would not have been as well known as it is here.
