Okay guys, you will recognise this mower from another much earlier thread. I got it from a council cleanup pile afew years ago and fell in love with it. Now i have put up afew pics of it but i'm trying to find more information about it as it has 2 markings, first is the CYCLONE sticker on the front and then on the body of the machine is DAWSON MK14.

It runs a tecumseh engine, well when i say runs... it used to run but it has starter mech issues now and it used to cut the lawn like a bowling green but the 4 blades would help with that. I was also curious about the side engine plate with 274 embossed on it?

I much prefer using it to any of the other mowers i have ever had, including the almost new victa i got when an elderly neighbour passed away.

What i'm after is more information about it basically, it runs the provisions for a catcher although didnt come with one and it also has a cut out for a side shute which i'm contemplating making one for it.

Now this mower was collecting dust under the bench in the garden shed for the past 2 years and i was going to get rid of it but its such a nice mower to use ( when it runs ) that i'm going to hold onto it. I'm doing a big clean out so i can finally start afew projects including the vintage go kart.

Any ideas guys on identifying this one?

I can shed a little light on things for you. The motor side plate you refer to is the exhaust box which vents to underneath the engine base plate. The 274 just means it is a two stroke (2), and a model 74 (74)(there is a model 87 as well) I have some details on these engines somewhere around my paper jungle which I will dig up for you. I imagine the mower itself could be quite rare. The starter mech. on top: I have a few starter cups if thats all you needed I could post one.

I have a craftsman off vccomm with one of those 274 on it and its a dynamite machine...just need a catcher too!

hey fast grass, grumpy, thanks for the engine info that helps shed some light on afew things, the problem it has with the starter mech is it gets caught up when i flick the switch, i've greased the starter mech afew i cleaned it up and it made no difference so i'm not to sure what the problem is, i'll take it off and get some pics maybe someone could identify the problem for me.

I'm in 2 minds as to if i should repaint it original colours etc and i was contemplating getting the cracked base repaired too, shes a great mower and alot quieter than the victas i'm used too.
