I've a Mac Cat, 16", about 20 years old. I can't be specific about the model as the decals have long worn off. The chain brake has ceased working and a strip down revealed that the brake band itself had snapped. This would appear to be because of wear as the band material in the region of the break is significantly thinner than elsewhere.
My question is, are brake bands still available as a spare part?

Hi arrow1, and a warm welcome to OutdoorKing. It's great to have you aboard. I have tried to do a bit of research for you, but unfortunately, there are at least 7 different models (most probably more) of the Mac Cat; without its exact model number and serial number its going to be hard to pin down a part number for the brake band. wink
From what I have learned the saw was manufactured between 1985 and 1989.
My advice is to maybe take it to a reputable chain saw repair shop and hopefully one of the old hands may be able to identify the model and advise on the availability of the spare part for you.
Sorry I cannot be of more help,
Once again, Arrow, :welcome:
cheers2

A good site for saw info is
http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/GasbyManufacturer?OpenView
All sorts of info for old saws.

If your saw is not covered on that site try;
http://www.arboristsite.com/
Post up some pics in the chainsaw secion and someone will be able to set you straight.

Or you could try googling pictures.
