Hi fellow members, I have only just recently gotten into restoring mowers and i have recently purchased this Victa 70 series. 70 series is all i know about it, but surely there is a correct model name for it? it is self propelled with the wind up (impulse) starter. Not sure if the catcher is original for this model but it has the chute. Any help/info would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Brendon ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/05/full-5717-6629-kgrhqzhjbye_hopsldbptemip3w60_3.jpg)

Hi Brendon, in order to help our Victa gurus give you some advice...can we have some pics from both sides....please also locate the engine number stamped on the engine casing and post it also....this will tell the year of manufacture. Thanks mate.

Engine numbers and some side shots (Particularly around the carby) would defiantly help.
As a preliminary assessment, I would say you have the second Self Propelled, That would make it a 1970-1971 Victa 160cc Self Propelled, Code V69, however you could also be looking at the V68 or V98, being the 1969 and 1971-1972 Variants respectively.
The engine number will give us the year, which will be a dead giveaway, however the carby will also be helpful, if its a G2 or 3Q, that would indicate a stronger chance of the 1969 (v68) model, however looking at the throttle set-up, I would say your looking at a G3 carby, which is indicative of the later two.
The catcher is indeed original, as is the chute, and it looks from here like you also have the original fuel gauge cap.
The engine number will be on a flat spot, on the uper lip of the bottom half of the crancase, on the carby side.
Cheers Ty

Well there you go, it's a 1969 model, making it the V68, I have a feeling that the air filter and throttle controller may not be original, but then again they did run the G3 in 1969.
If it turns out to have either a G2 or 3Q carby though, then the air filter is tall green, pointed and opens at the bottom, and the throttle lever attaches to the side of that.
If the pictures reveal a G2, then the cut-out assembly is in the throttle lever housing, and a wire runs up there from the engine, I am unsure if this also applies to the 3Q.
Hopefully we can narrow it down more with pictures, but at least we can now say it is a 1969 Victa Self Propelled, V68, 160cc.
Cheers Ty

Thanks Blumbly, yes i bought it to restore it but ive been using it as is since i bought it lol, but yeah it obviously wasnt very well looked after. It doesnt seem to have spark at the moment and ive tried a few different plugs with no luck, so while shes out of action im going to start planning my restore. Kind of dreading the self propelled parts though. If it turns out to be a bigger job than i can handle i might see if anyone around my way would be interested in a swap for some other older victa which isnt self propelled.
