Hi guys,
I was wandering if you could tell me how to take apart a pull starter on a Quantum 35 engine. I need to replace the pull cord but I can't figure out how to disassemble the pull starter assembly without breaking it.
Thanks for helping.

Hi Max, if you have one of the Briggs starters that cannot be disassembled, see if this video helps:

You dont dissassemble the starter, take it off the engine, turn the cord reel the same way it would turn as the rope comes out until the spring is fairly tight, feed in new rope and tie it off on the inside, then using the recoil spring use that to fill the reel with new rope.

Unless you are talking about the vertical pull type quantum 3.5 which From memory isn't the easiest of tasks...

Thanks for all your replies,
my engine actually has a vertical pull cord with the recoil spring assembly mounted on the side of the engine (not on top of the flyweel).
I really can't see how to fit the new cord...
The engine is identical to this one: http://www.2ememain.be/jardin/outils-et-machines/tondeuse/moteur-tondeuze-%C3%A0-gazon-briggs-stratton-103451172.html

I am not too certain my self on this but I do know that the main bolt going through the middle is a left hand thread.

It does seem to be a difficult one to repair. You might try this explanation of how to do it:

Spot on Grumpy!
Thanks for that! I did not realize that that screw was holding the entire assembly.

Thanks for letting us know it's fixed, Max. I'll close this thread - if anyone needs to post to it, just PM a moderator.
