Hi StrykerM134, and a warm welcome to the forum. Its great to have you aboard. Can you please tell us what it is....as I don't know either... I can see its on a Masport...could possibly be from New Zealand...is it some form of Iron Horse? Once again, Stryker, to OutdoorKing.

Looks very lawnboyish to me, Masport is made in New Zillund but perhaps they imported the engines from the us?

The mower is nothing special, you can look at another one the same in this thread: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=34536The Lawn Boy engine was popular in the US back in its day. I haven't heard of anyone getting excited about them because of extraordinary operational performance, the way they sometimes do about Japanese 2 strokes. That mower is obviously pig-ugly, and I see no reason why it would be more valuable than other roadside pickups. However, if you want to try you could always put it on ebay, preferably with a bag over it so nobody gets ill. Masport fitted some earlier D series Iron Horse engines (the ones with the "hammerhead" top cover) and those made nice looking mowers, that could be worth collecting.

I haven't seen performance reports comparing the Lawn Boy engine with the Japanese ones, but I've seen plenty of rave reviews of the Japanese ones, and none of the Lawn Boy. If you check the Youtube videos you'll notice it runs better than a Victa, but just about anything short of an old British engine does. Lawn Boy used automatic ignition advance instead of fixed timing, and they had a reed valve which improves smoothness at low speed and idle. Aside from that it seems to be just an engine. The D series looked rather elegant, partly because its carburetor, air filter and reed valve assembly mount on the opposite side of the crankcase from the cylinder, so it looks like an opposed twin. The ones with the carburetor on the side of the crankcase instead of the bottom, just look like engines to me.

I've been wanting to do the same with mine, possibly finding a way to disquise the engine too.
There is one problem I have encountered with the engine transfer though, it will not fit on a standard mount base, the hole for this engine is actually larger, and the mounts therefore further apart.
This is to accomodate the muffler, which is underneath and circular.
As for performance, I beleive mine is fully up and running at the moment, and my grass is quite long, so I'll find some time this week to give it a run about if I can, and give you my opinion on it's performance to the task.
Cheers Ty

to desquise the engine i believe a paper bag would do the trick and for the base i thought that may have been the case in my junk heap i have a steel side chute base in theory i could make the hole bigger it doesnt look much bigger then the hole for a victa power torque so i may try that orbecause of its weird ugliness i may find some poor person to swap to

Let me know how you go if you do decide to make up a new base for the engine, I would love to at least do that with this one.
I have been thinking about wether I can alter one of the old "Covered" victa bases such as a VC-160 or VC-Mustang to somehow accept this engine, that way the dress cowl will hide it quite well!
Cheers Ty

I'm current;y nutting out what the requirements for the cooling cowl & flow will be, It's likely a VC-160 may be the donor, as I can create a direct flow from the top easily with that layout.

Why Why Why???
Its ugly, celebrate that fact.
The hole for a power torque is the same as the hole for a Briggs etc.
Perhaps it was one of those fuglies that was originally on that Masport i gave you with the Tecumseh on it Mr Davis.

For god sakes don't junk it!!! Those Lawnboy made Masports are rarer than hens teeth, Save that..... I am a Lawnboy expert so here goes. That is a Lawnboy F100 engine made from 1970 to 1977, The carb shows me that that is the 2nd revision of the F100 series Engine, Lawnboy made everything on those masports in the US making them extremely rare to find, Sure it may look ugly, but if it has the original blade (not disc) it will cut amazingly.. You sir have a very rare mower on your hands, and the thought of scrapping or changing it almost brings tears to my eyes.... Thanks Kori

Bob, I think you're spot on there, the Techumseh haad been mounted very uniquly into a hole that was to large for it, by clamping on to the inner edge.
Kori, I have two of these engines, one came with a slider ontop of the carby that let's you choose light or normal speed, the other one does not.
What can you make of that?
Also, do you know where one could find service data on these, I have one running, but it needs a bit of a clean up, and tune...
Cheers Ty

The slider indicates that that is a replacement carb, At the time these engines were produced that feature was not available, that carb would be for a F250/300 series engine. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to answer. Kori

What distingishes the F250 & F300 engines from the F100?
