The Quantum had gravity fuel feed and an internal mechanical governor, it was quite a bit different from the usual Briggs practice on the small engines of using a suction carburetor and an air vane governor.

Not always true grumpy the very early quantum 3.5 had a air vane govenor with a gravity fed carb, afterwards they went to all internal govenors. I also have a close relative to a sprint 375 with an internal govenor and a normal pulsaprime carb, only got the one its a oddball

Thanks Joe, so Quantum means gravity fuel feed rather than gravity fuel feed and internal governor?
I guess it's possible that the early exception you had (Quantum with air vane) was due to teething problems with the internal governor, so they made an unknown number of hybrids while they got their act together.

As far as I kow it was a one off model, it even had a heavy duty vertical pull starter, I can do a bit of a write up if needed with photos.

If you have details on an oddball factory-made Briggs, that should be worth knowing about. For example, what were its predecessors and successors? Does it fit in, or was it a dead end series? Is there history of it on the internet? Has anyone else seen one?

I have one of these in bits off a victa'quadra' power mower. Air vane governor and vertical start. Can probably pull some numbers if anyone is interested.
