I have a 15 yr old Honda HR214. The tranmission was not engaging properly, so being the do-it-yourselfer that I am I decided to pull apart the transmission. Everything appears OK, but the oil looked pretty bad and is now all over my garage floor. Does anyone know what type of transmission oil Honda recommends and how much? Also any suggestions on what my original problem might be would be appreciated.

Honda recommend their own brew of oil but generally you can substitute it for a 30/40 grade engine oil.

When you disconnected the drive shaft from the engine,do you remember removing a roll pin from the front part of the shaft? If not that was your problem. Without that pin in there,the engine cannot turn the shaft. Unless the self propelled system is belt driven?
