I just inherited a 85 snapper w/8 hp briggs. Mower had been stored in a barn for past 10-15 years. I put new magneto-coil on and set gap. So I got spark but no fuel. Cleaned out carb w/cleaner and got it to fire momentarily. I tried adusting the needle valve but either (when I pulled plug - dry plug or too wet)I never could get it adjusted correctly again to get it to start. The needle valve leaks a little no matter how I've adjusted it. Do you have any suggestions?
Paul, I suggest that you replace the needle to stop the fuel from leaking (this will throw out the mixture)and if that does not stop it you will have to clean the seat by using a tooth pick or a match and put some valve paste on it. Place it in the hole and spin around a few times as it could have some dirt on the seat.
