I have a 4HP self-propelled mower that has two problems: 1) After the engine gets hot, if the mower is turned off I can't restart it until after it cools off; and
2) Now the start rope has seized and won't allow me to pull it to start the engine.
How serious are these problems? New mower needed or can it be repaired?

In reply to question 1) The exhaust or inlet valve could be either pitted or burnt. Also the valve clearance could be out.
2) As to the starter rope I would suggest that it has come off the pulley. Usually this happens when you hear a screeching noise and that is caused by a worn starter clutch or it has not been oiled.
