Hello,
A friend of mine is trying to restore one of these. Does anybody know a paint colour code for a Victa 2 rotomo mower. Any close match would be welcome.
Thanks.

Gooday, I have a rough Victa 2. It has Hammerite paint Dark Green. Soon to be available from Wattyl Paints I believe. Or there might be other suppliers of the Hammer type paints. I obtained a tin of HAMMERITE (1 litre) from my local paint person who got it from his supplier in Adelaide. To be used by brush only - (not able to use a spray gun with it). Stationary
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Stationary, i cant comment on that exact paint, but the paint shop up the road has a special thinner that you use for spraying hammertone paint. Its different to the stuff you would use with an acrylic paint, like car paint.

I just use a multi-purpose thinner to thin down my hammertone paint, but no more than 10% or hammertone affect won't come out.Not sure of exact colour, but I believe that avocado green would be close to the right colour.I guess it comes down to personal choice as there was about 3 different shades of green.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Hi all, from my memory, I believe that the Model 2 Rotomo was a 'solid' green, similar to deep brunswick green, not hammertone which came later....

As Deejay states...The rotomo 2 is a solid base green,There is no known accurate paint code or name for the early Victas. The most widely used colour by restorers is Deep Brunswick Green in the Wattle killrust variety. It is still a shade or two lighter in my opinion but fairly accurate, and is good to keep the majority of restos uniform. The hammertone paint wasnt introduced until the model 2a Rotomo, and was used on the cowl tank and strap. It went mainstream with the model 4 Predicta and well into the next few models. The main being the model 5 which is where Victa really got its name and the model most people associate as VICTA...Anyways enough rambling. The hammertone colour used was GALMET AVOCADO...BUT unfortunately the colour has been changed over time, there is no uniformity, and truly there were that many shade varieties, considering main stream shops often did their own painting,If you want a perfect match, get it colour matched by a professional...(But be wary,Do not rely on Galmet Avocado as your first choice...Its just not the same!!!!)And use an early model 4 Automatic as a Sample...:)
