I would just go to the mower shop and buy a new O-ring.

I think its just an 031 from memory, you can get it from a bearing place.


Put it back together with that. See what happens.

Putting the wrong length needle in is a recpie for disaster

Ended up with a new primer cap and o-ring and thus far it's working. Did take about 5-6 pulls to start the few times that I tested it so not sure if I didn't put something back together in the carby properly but it runs fine once it's started.

So the mower is now "mostly" working, my wife has trouble getting it to start but I can get it going with around 6-7 pulls but the idle is very rough when on cold start and smokes a lot but once you push the throttle forward it runs ok after a few seconds.

I can't remember how I aligned the poppet valve so I'll check that later as per the instructions here - https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=11656 - but is there anything else I should check?

And the VSX160 (2003) where are these made? In Australia or China?

anything after 99 or thereavout is china as far as I have noted.
