G'day,

After a long and frustrating e-mail conversation with Victa Australia, it appears as though they can not supply me with a spare part for my mower which is less than 10 years old (just). So....

Wanted: CH86065A ALLOY BASE PLATE 97 MODEL 18 MULCH PLUG

This is for a 2003 model Victa Corvette 700 mower.

Cheers

Bam Bam,

Good luck with the mulching plug for the mower because the last one we bought was back in 1998 which is over the 10years that you are talking about. Maybe if you are lucky you might find a store that still has one on the shelf but it will cost as they are not cheap. cheers2

Yes, I'm not hopeful of getting one from a dealer. I rang just about every one in Brisbane looking for one.

I'm rather hoping that someone on a forum has an old one kicking around their shed that they might want to sell me.

Fingers crossed!

Hmmm, i rang the Victa guy nearest me and he told me that they were about $55.
Never mentioned it would be unavailable.

I checked again today and watched the dealer ring Victa himself. Definitely can't be purchased from them any more.

Here's the correspondence from Victa (start at the bottom) eek:

Right, so just to clarify; Victa, the manufacturer of my mower, cannot supply me with a spare part for my mower, which is less than ten years old?

G’day Trevor,

Can’t find anything resembling Victa Rare Spares on google…

• Can you guarantee that the part CH86222A will fit my alloy deck? The dealer here seems to think that it won’t
• How much is the part?

Cheers
BB

The part No was CH86065A….
Try A company called Victa Rare Spares you can find them on GOGGLE and I believe that they are based in Melbourne

Hi Trevor,

Not sure if you have knocked off for the day? I’ve left a couple of messages.

I’ve continued ringing around here trying to find answers to my questions. Can you confirm that CH86065A – ALLOY BASE PLATE 97 MODEL 18” MULCH PLUG is in fact the one I’m after? Can you advise a price please?

Cheers
BB

Trevor,

Further to my last e-mail, the deck is an 18”, not a 19”. The local dealer was saying that the Corvette series only went to 19” decks about 6 or 7 years ago ie right after I bought mine.

Cheers
BB

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the reply.

I took the mower in to a Victa Gold Dealer yesterday and he said that the steel deck plugs won’t work because of the requirement for a ramp(?) which is missing on the alloy decks. He even tried to fit a 19” steel deck plug. My deck is definitely an alloy deck, not steel.

I’ve attached a photo if that will help with the confirmation of the part.

I am after one in a bit of a hurry (long story) so was hoping to source one in the Darling Downs or Brisbane in the next 48 hours.

Cheers
BB

Questions / Comments:
G’day, In 2003, I purchased a Victa lawnmower in Toowoomba. It was an alloy-base, mulch or catch powered by a B&S engine. I have the owners manual for both; the B&S manual has Quantum 120000 on the front. I have a receipt from the mower shop which describes the mower as a Victa Corvette 700 B&S C7A401K. The serial number on the sticker on the side of the motor is 0254-08-03. Unfortunately, the mulch plug has disappeared and I want to buy a new one. I have been to all three mower dealers in Toowoomba and have not had much success in locating one. If I could even get a part number, it would help so I could ring around the dealers in Brisbane. Are you able to assist me with a) confirming that my model requires a mulch plug compatible with a 19” alloy base and b) a Victa part number for the relevant mulch plug? Cheers BB

Problem victa as we know it will be coming to a pretty abrupt end soon in my opinion (it already has in another sense)

Before we know it they wont make a 2 stroke anymore, they will use only briggs engines since briggs bought victa out.

Then they will keep flooding the market with $198 pooheaps that die after 3 years.

Then (again already happening) they will start using more and more generic names for the cheap victa designs.

Thats in my opinion what will end up happening anyway, I have enough 2 stroke engines to see my lifetime out and my kids as well lol made when quality was a priority.

That conversation seemed a bit random to me.

Yeh sorry.
Not meaning to tease.

Im lucky i have this one. Came in a blown up mower i bought, well there was two mowers in the lot and i paid too much so the plug was a plesant surprise.

If someone made a few up in fiberglass/steel i wonder how many they could sell.

You say you lost yours?? I assume youve turned the world upside down?? Id find mine 10 years later, in the catcher. lol. where i put it for safe keeping.

I do have a few 'tornado' plugs here, they are totally the wrong shape, the new base is more of a low arch design.

I spoke to the Victa dealer in Altona North (i think hes a mower power) about the plug, it would be less than 6 months ago. Im thinking prehaps he did say something about checking availability.

Yeah, mine was in the catcher too. It disappeared whilst I was away for a few weeks with work. I suspect it went into the green waste bin the first time my wife emptied the catcher...

Well I won't to talking to Victa (Briggs & Stratton) about anything then. They didn't seem to give a [Censored] about your problem.I guess as it wasn't new enough and they wouldn't make any money on the plug.

Yeah, I've tried contacting them a few times now about various issues, however, I've never had any real luck.

Which is why I just don't bother any more!

Would you like me to blow up a chinese MTD for you joe???

I have one here thats got a real bad rod knock.
I had a flymo with a 375 sprint on it that was a bit sick the other day, i did contemplate letting it lunch itself. It ran real nice untill you loaded it right up nearly back to idle speed then it would chug blue smoke for ages and eventually get its revs back and clear the smoke after more than 30 seconds. Bore was all scored up.

Give eurells of leeton a call, they keep a lot of old stock there, heck they even have brand new high arch catchers on the shelf still.

Cool

I wonder if they ship As I am interested in getting a brand new vortex catcher. I have got my hands on a second hand one in good nick but there is nothing like a newie.

I read this thread thinking how the mighty have fallen and I remember back in the Horsley Rd Milperra days of the mid 1980's you could pretty much get parts and decals for every single victa made. I remember going out to there with my father as a 12 year old and was shocked by what was avail.
