Hi to All,
Some of you would not have seen the edger attachment that was an optional extra for the Model 45 Scotty. They were never really a great success, as the metal work was flimsy, the unguarded 'V' belt could catch out the unwary, and the edger could not be disconnected from the drive, so was running as soon as the cutter clutch was engaged.
Scott Bonnar discontinued production eventually and withdrew them from sale. Here are a few pics of the edger fitted...

Hi Steve, yes mate, they pop up on eBay quite regularly, brand new in box, but they are a real safety hazard, flimsy in design and didn't work well. SB themselves discontinued them as a disaster...Now if it was a Victa 18 Special edger (that was never made)...you could retire on the money you would get for it! lol

Wow, I'm seeing now what you were saying about unsafe, that belt alone seems a really bad idea to me, let alone the fact that you can't disengage it.

A great novelty for a mower collection, and defiantly something for a Scott Bonnar collector, but as far as I would recommend, not for use!!!

Cheers
Ty

Hi Ty, I agree wholeheartedly there mate, in fact you wouldn't get away with it these days without a belt guard due to OH&S...in fact the Rover 45's had to have a plastic guard over the complete clutch assembly.
There was a rumour that a bloke in Wagga years ago, lost a finger in the 'V' belt of one of those edger attachments while trying to adjust the belt tension whilst the machine was running...
Silly thing to attempt.... crazy

Hi All,

Bit of an update of an old thread that's been plagiarised and surfaced on Gumtree in Adelaide.

These Edger attachments were discontinued when Scott Bonnar ceased production in South Australia after being bought out by Rover.

Rover decided not to continue with this unsafe piece of garden equipment for obvious reasons just like Victa ceased making the toe cutters machines..

On the other hand these have become rather valuable / collectable within the Scott Bonnar scene, with some fetching around $400, but for figure that it needs to be still in the original packing box that they came in from the Holland Street factory.

Cheers,
BB.
