Hi guys - I posted incorrectly in the 'wanted' area :

Anyway - fixing it for my mate, the synopsis is:

The coil is dead on this mower (Masport)
Briggs & stratton 375 engine is dead.

Anyone got a spare I can purchase to help out my mate?

Type 2215 E2
Code 98082554

That looks like a standard Magnatron coil, as used on nearly all Briggs engines since 1983. All you need is a dead Briggs engine, or alternatively you can buy one. Because a lot of pre-1983 Briggs engines are converted to Magnatron, the units are not as commonly available as you might hope, but they are quite widespread. I'd have thought the Wanted forum would have been a better choice, but you should achieve a reasonable exposure to members this way.

Alwayscurious,

The coil part number is 793281 just type it into the search box in the online store which is located in the site links box on the left side of the forum. Below is a picture of the coil.

Thanks for the answers so far! I think you've nailed it to a magnatron as well.

Looks like 137.50 is too pricey for my mate. He's a bit price conscious at the moment after Christmas. Does anyone have one they'd be willing to part with for twenty bucks or so? Would pay postage. Regards ac

Scrap yard or tip etc.

Dont need many tools.
Anything with easy start or 'electronic' on the engine cover. Or anything sprint.

Tip the mower on its fuel side and look for the wires going to the points compartment in over the top of the valve chest. If theres none, put the plug out, test for spark and pull it too bits.

For me, ive got coils here but an offer of $20 or even $30 is not worth my time to bother with getting the money from you and going to the trouble of posting it. Its worth more to me, in the 3.5hp engine bits box just sittin there ready for me to lay my hands on it when you need it.

The fact that most of the mowers i get from the scrap yard are minus the starter, coil and primer carb tells me that you need to hit it hard and regular to get what you want. Well your mate does.

Thanks guys. Got it running by buying a second engine and swapping good coil out. Now I have a dead engine to add to collection!! :-)
