IT'S ALIVE.OK guys and girls.Put my Scott Bonner back together put some fuel in on off she goes.Couldn't believe that somebody would through it out. Here is a you-tube link to it.

I did notice that before I started it the air tube was broken, big hole.Notice the green tape.I don't know what I did wrong, but I have to fix the throttle as it doesn't seem to work,or maybe that's why it was tossed out.
Have a look let me know what you think.

Yeah it might be something like that.Unless it's not lined up properly as when it's out of the carby it works.Just doesn't seem to when it's in.I'll have a look in a few minutes.I have some other mowers I need to wreck today.

OK I had a little play around with it.I had the plunger around the wrong way.Now I can adjust the revs. It' seems that I have to do a little adjusting with the cable to get it right, but I'm on the right track now.

Yeah maybe somebody turned the starter around I'm sure I will be able to turn it around the right way.Now don't be upsetting me with the catcher. How do you know that any way? It looks the same as the the one's I have seen. Also when you look at the paint I would say they have come off the same gun.It has whethered the same as base.I mean from what I have seen the 4 stroke and the 2 stroke used the same base.So why would the catchers be different?

Yes well that's all my baby needs is the right air filter box and the right fuel cap. After looking at it the reason why the starter is around the wrong way is because the fuel cap is to big and there's not enough room the release trigger.

Hi deviosi, bit that with that reply.Anyway maybe it's just the way you come across perhaps these details you were talking about should have been done as questions not statements.

Sorry Steve but the Scotty Bonner is not for trading or wrecking. It has managed to worm it's way into my collection and cemented itself there as well.On day after a few other restores have been done.It to one day will be restored.Maybe for other mowers etc,but not scotty

The 49 Model with the Villiers came out first and got a top recomendation from Choice Magazine. They still called it the 49 when they replaced the Villiers with the Kirby KAV87 a few years later. The 49 was replaced with the 720 with a completely differnt base. There were also Briggs & Stratton 4 stroke versions of both

Cool thanks for that.Don't suppose there is any paper work to support that? If there is I would really love a copy.As there really isn't a lot of information available so I would like as much as I can find. Thanks again.

I thought I's add a picture of the model plate as I have found that from a model list this model isn't on that list.
Not sure why but does anyone have any information that could shed some light on this?
The model is hard to read but is is model number 4901589.Most of the model numbers that are listed only have four number after the 49 this one has five.As you can see behind the right front wheel there is a chunk out of.So I started my search for another base, and believe it or not I found one. However I believe it was an original four stroke base. It's model number is 4908706.Once again an extra number.
Does anyone know anything about that model number?
It does seem to be similar model to say the 490409 fitted with a Kirby-Tecumseh VK30 engine. If it was a similar model I think I have a spare VK30 I could put on it,as I know I have the original cutting disc from the Scott Bonnar base.

I was going to give it a run again, but there is some damage to the rubber air hose and run out of time. Will have a go next weekend.

Hello Blumbly

I think I can answer your question about the Model 4901589 & 4908706.
Why do they have an extra digit? Answer: They are not model numbers.

What you have are mower number plates.
In your photo the plate actually says just that. It's a mower serial number.

On some machines, SB included an extra plate with the Model number:-
[Note how the mower no. and the model number begin the same]

So, your machine model number(s) should be interpreted as per
my list in the ODK History Record.

Hope this helps.

Hmm you well could be right there Jack.I never thought of that.It does make it hard to work out what my spare base was originally.

I think so, but ...

I guess you now have more options...

I'm hoping, some day, you will add a 49 with plastic catcher to the collection.
My favourite is the 49, plastic catcher, Kirby 2, with dress cowl and vert. pull.

Your postings are now part of the Record and linked to the Record.
I hope all your great work will help folks down the mower track.

Cheers & thanks.
