Hello All, Had the base of my 160cc New Utility in the vat for electric soda cleaning. Scraping off a top layer of paint revealed a decal at the rear of the deck. I managed to peel this off and underneath was the original paint which appears to be a dark green Hammertone type stuff. Is this paint available? We do have a couple of paint places in our village here. One, I know, sells White Knight paint. Regarding the decal, does anyone have a good photo of an original - as some of the wording at the bottom of mine has been eaten away. And I hope to make a few. What is left is as follows. "CAUTION, Keep Hands & Feet Clear" in two rows - followed by patent data. "The Product is protected by One or More of the Following Registered patent Appplications" Then comes a string of numbers - partly "43261, 45230/1, 45455, 50987, ../20/21.22.22". There has been a fair bit of research into the correct colours, but seeing as there really has been no records of colours kept, and colours were changed from model to model.I have read somewhere that the best hammertone colour match has come from a white king spray can. What most people (myself included) have done is just found a colour that they liked and what they think is close and use that.Unfortunately for me I can't get them in hammertone.I just don't want to use spray cans.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Yes Joe, The store now calls Washing Soda as "Electric Soda". I run my vat at 2 amps and it seems to loosen all the paint and most of the rust. Some scraping and use of a stainless scouring pad gets off the rest. I then paint the dried part with a rust converter which acts as a primer coat to a light grey undercoat. Stationary

I use bicarb soda in my electrolysis bath, I have never heard of electric soda??
That paint looks like the standard Victa green hammertone.
The closest match is 'Galmet' brand Avocado Green. Which they do not produce anymore but it can be mixed as long as your paint store has the formula.

Bunnings sell a 'PLASTICOTE' brand hammertone in 'Forest Green'. It looks very similar. Believe it or not, I used that colour on the prow and cabin roof of my boat. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/09/full-4857-3515-16052010.jpg)

Ah, a man who knows what he's looking at. 1965 Explorer. Paid $1600, boat and trailer reg'd, in Newcastle 18 mths ago. Twas an unloved mess. I then completely stripped it, new interior, (with doors now), portaloo. Sleeps 2, 40hp Johnson. Only half finished in this pic. Spent just over $2200 on it in total, (after purchase), did all the work myself. Goes well.

Hi Stationary, re your paint colour....it looks very much like the Avocado Hammertone Green as is alleged to have been used on the Model 5 Victa 18 Special and most others of that period. Stationary, here is the place in Bundaberg QLD that sells Victa Model 5 Avocado Green Hammertone.... Jeff's Paint Place: Tel: (07) 41516133 or email paintplacebundaberg@iftelecom.com.au Might come in handy for you, mate

Gooday Deejay, I am a bit far away from Jeff's Paint Place - but thank you for the information. Not sure if paint can be sent through Australia Post. Don't know any truckies going up there either.. However I have managed to get a local supplier,(finally), to source some "Hammerite" Dark Green from Adelaide. And painting will proceed when it stops raining....... both on the New Utility (Hammerite) and the Thomas Green cylinder mower (John Deere Green). OH! Nearly forgot. This Hammerite is brushed on,(cant use it with a spray gun). Stationary
