Picked this up from Tiny's in Mitchell over the weekend, while I was out there with etal, cost me $10. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4360-20111130_032.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4361-20111130_033.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4362-20111130_034.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4363-20111130_035.jpg) I'll be swapping the engine itself for a S70 MKIII, with G3 carby, I even have a good MKIII sticker here i should be able to transfer to the cowl. Eventually it will be restored, even if the engine swap will make it un-original!
Cheers Ty

I'm already thinking I might be changing the handle Colour when I get to that bit of the Job, I want to make this one look like it came off the assembly with a G3 on it.
I'm considering, just for fun, doing similar with the S80 MKI you gave me, I think I might swap the Cylinder for a G3 one, and modify a S70 cowl to fit the S80 engine, along with an alloy geared side start, then restore to the point that it would convince the un-trained eye the S80 had a G3 on it!
Cheers Ty

Same with mine, I still call this a series 70 though, because in technicality it is.
The series 70 was released in 1970 and went through 4 generations, MKI (no decomp), MKII & MKIII (Decomp & G3) and MKIV (G4 Plastic Carby & Decomp)
Toward the end of the 70's (I believe somewhere between 1976 and 1978) they started to call them series 80, in the lead up to the 1980 release of the actual Series 80 engine (Geared side start)
The 1980 side start with points was deemed the MKI, while the later electronic ignition version was the MKII, the Series 80 you have there was never given a designation, as it was not considered part of the official lineup once 1980 rolled around.
A few machines continued this top start series 80 into the early 80's, but only for a little while, and only some very limited models.
The engine on your tiltacut generally gets many names among collectors, some call it the S80 prerunner or forerunner, some the S80 MK0, and some call it S70 MKV.
I tend to call it a series 70 MKIV, as the difference between it and the actual MKIV comes down to the sticker. calling it this also helps distinguish between top and side stat Victa full crank engines.
Cheers Ty

Mine has the sticker too mate, In fact, they are probably no more than one or two years apart!
Victa has a few very confusing points in it's history, did you know that during the late 60's, when Victa were experimenting with different carburettors, you could get a 160cc corvette from one shop with a G2 (governed), then go down the other end of f town, and find the exact same mower, with a 3Q (Non-Governed) carby in another shop?
Victa just popped different carbies on in batches, and different locations ended up with different combinations. Even the old green books show 3 carbies in the parts list for the mowers of that era!
Cheers Ty
