Just received an email from etal, who I have been repairing an engine for, He is coming up to collect it this weekend, and has for me a little something found at the tip. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4274-dsc07119.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/11/full-5013-4275-dsc07120.jpg) The sports gets a project underway for me, that I have been wanting to get to for a while, while the Corvette will be fixed up for trade (You interested Bob, I know you love the Series 80) the Charger will most likely be fixed up, while i don't tend to wards keeping store brands, this one looks to be a bit nice for scrapping for parts, Joe, if your interested, let me know, as I could swap it for a G3, red box starter, and maybe an old engine or what not. And of course the Atco, which is what really has me excited, as it gives me what i need to get the Atco I have up and running, for those who have not seen, HERE is the link. The Atco should pop up in the restore section soon!!!
Cheers Ty

I have a couple of oldies that have turned up recently you can take your pick on, you can also take that 3q or 3s (whichever that carby I got is) as I have no hope in completing it....

Cheers Joe, The 3Q would be wonderfull.
As for the rest, what i really need is a Series 70 MKII or III Engine, or at least the Cylinder & Piston.
I'm converting a G4 mustang to G3.
Cheers Ty

Ty, you may be way ahead of me here, but I don't think that Villiers matches the one in your own ATCO. The one you've just found looks the same as in the prewar 12" ATCO I used to have. The muffler, and the much smaller clutch, may not be the only differences.

The engine on the atco looks almost the same and with a lot of the villiers arts could be cobbled togther moderately easily. From memory on ty's other atco he needed the magneto, flywheel and starter and it should be close to complete.... a carby also...

The older one he is just acquiring is probably a rarer and more valuable machine, and looks to be in better condition.

Hi Ty, I remember doing an engine swap with a 1451 ATCO I restored, with the one from etal, the engine might be quite OK...you've got a carby from VM, Just swap the engine over complete after a good clean-up and check over, and see how it goes.

Oddly Enough, the one I am acquiring will have the parts I need removed, then be set aside to one day be restored itself.
I realise it sounds a little silly, however I am aware that it is missing at least handle bars, which in themselves, would either need to be manufactured or tracked down, as I don't have the equipment to manufacture handles of the requires sort, i would need to wait for some to show up (on top of that, i would prefer not to make reproduction parts where possible)
So rather than have 2 mowers waiting for parts, and seeing as the handle bars between the 2 differ, at least this way I will have 1 working one.
It is also likely, that once I acquire parts for the older/rarer one, the original parts to it will come back of the working one, and the new parts will replace them, restoring the older mower with it's own original parts.
Cheers Ty

I think i might Just Darryl, as it removes the need to disturb the magneto more than necissary.
I'll fit the incomplete engine to the one from etal, for reasons mentioned in the above post (which i must have been typing when you posted) and to make sure no parts of it are lost.
Unless the bore is damaged on the one comming, as the one from joe has a good bore.
Cheers Ty

Good one Ty, once you receive the machine from etal, please take some good pics and post them in "Restoration and Customising"...in other words start a new thread for your ATCO's...It could make a very valuable archive for the future for a member starting an ATCO restoration themselves. on a great score, Ty.

I will do that, the one coming up may just be in the rare finds for a little while, as I wont be looking to restore it for some time, however when I do, i will begin it a restoration thread (I'd prefer to leave it till then, as if plans change in the meantime, we end up with a 1/2 thread)
The Atco from Joe will be up as soon as i get this one (well, maybe after a few minutes) with some photo's along side for comparison, hopefully by the end of next week i will be able to add photo's of it with all it's new bit's on, and tidied up, then I will be focusing on making it run.
After that, the Atco will become one of my first "Full" restorations, as i plan to paint it.
Cheers Ty

Ty, if the hand grips are missing, my prewar ATCO had solid, cast aluminium hand grips shaped like the old glass coke bottles or traditional wooden file handles, with a short slot so their angle could be varied a bit. The actual area your hand contacts had been smoothed and polished - it might have been a hand-buffing operation rather than a lathe job, I seem to recall they weren't as perfectly symmetrical as a lathe-turned part would be, and they were polished. Fairly skilled hand-finishing labour was available in Britain very cheaply before the war.

The one I already have has turned wooden handles, which are a little duct-taped (I have not yet looked under the tape to asses the damage) while the one coming is described as having a dent in it, and no handle.
I guess when I get them I will asses which one would be the most likely to come up as a successfully restore at this point, and restore that one.
Eventually I hope to have them both up and running, along with the Royal Enfield.
Cheers Ty
