Hi all. First time poster here.

Looks like a pretty cool Forum!

Just got my first Scott Bonnar and this place feels at home already...

Hi Shifty, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have another Scott Bonnar owner on board. grin
We all like to see members pics of their machine and would like to see yours, so can you please post a couple in the appropriate forum?
Any questions you may have just post and we will do our best to help you.
Once again Shifty, :welcome:

Cheers Deejay.

I will post pic's ASAP. I found these ID numbers on engine and body.

Engine 60102. (2hp)
Model 45 14082

It all seems complete and original but is in need of a good sharpen.
Also, it is not running the best. TLC is needed.

Is it possible to get parts and manual's (for valve clearances etc) for this mower still?

As a panel beater/Spray painter, i think ill do a full resto down the line.

Cheers...

Shifty, you have quoted two of the three blocks of numbers stamped on the air cowl of the Briggs and Stratton engine in your SB mower. If you post the third block of numbers, we can tell you when it was made. If you post a picture of the mower identification plate that should be on the side of the mower, Deejay can tell you what model it is, whether we have a manual available for it, and some other useful information. That plus a few general pictures of the mower will make this thread more useful in our archives.

I've moved this thread to the Scott Bonnar mowers sub-forum. When we've sorted out the model identification and general mower frame issues such as sharpening etc., if you would like to talk about your engine issues, please start a new thread in the Briggs and Stratton Engines sub-forum.

Shifty, here is your illustrated parts list:
http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/18lowGXBnfBhU7y.pdf

And here is your operator's manual:
http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/lrvvA-wU7eL7hAxB91ObQ.pdf

The last block of numbers, which you have reported as 004013, seems to have a digit missing, probably the first one of the block. If you check and correct this, we can tell you the date of manufacture of your engine. The engine has had one or two "tenant's improvements" but the ones I've noticed haven't been important. Much more significantly, it looks as if the reel has never been resharpened, so there is plenty of meat on it - it could be resharpened quite a few times. Generally the mower looks to be in quite decent shape. Do you have a catcher for it?

Thanks for the info and the speedy reply!
The digit i missed was a 7 at the beginning of the last block (as above)
I did get a catcher with it which is in pretty good shape.

I was just giving it a run. Seems to have a few issues like popping through the carby and running temperamental.

I will Post those issues through the correct threads..

Shifty, a third block reading 7004013 means your engine was made on 1 April 1970. Your mower was probably made later in the same year.

If you post some details of the engine's issues in the Questions on Briggs & Stratton Engines sub-forum, we can go through a diagnostic procedure to figure out how to get it into top-notch shape. Just make very sure its sump is full of oil before you continue to gather information - it makes no sense to risk wrecking the engine now that it's survived for more than 40 years.

Hi Shifty, the age of your engine by grumpy has identified it as being manufactured in 1970 and that fits with the chassis, which is an early model 45....

The Model 45 was first introduced in 1968, and yours can be easily identified as an early model by the alloy end-caps of the front roller and horizontal screws on the chain case cover and the screws for adjusting the grass deflector....( it can be considered as a Mark 1, so to speak ) It is a 14" cutting width and was designed for use on smaller lawns...( the 17" and the 20" for the larger lawns )

Once sharpened and correctly adjusted and maintained, it should give you hours of mowing pleasure. wink
