Thanks for those pics, Greg, they go a long way toward documenting the machine. I was struck by how well the mower seems to be engineered, except for the stamped floor pan which serves unreinforced as a chassis, and the very narrow rear track, which are not commensurate with the rest of the design. I'd have thought you could redesign it fairly easily into a much stronger one, by welding deep longitudinal rectangular tubes along the sides of the floor pan, but there isn't much room for them on the inside of the back wheels. You might be able to move the wheel hubs outboard, though.

I recognise that you aren't in the business of doing that, because you wouldn't be able to sell the machine after modifying it.

Overall the mower reminds me of certain conversions of old VW Beetles into beach buggies. The conversions were supposed to include bolting square tubes along the underside of the floor pan, but some people omitted them, with unfortunate results.

That could easily be converted into a walk behind self propelled slasher.

Just a thought.


Hardest thing would be nutting out a way to build in a bearing support for the other side of the diff. No doubt had it had one to start with it would still be perfectly fine.
With less weight and no lardy arse sitting on top it would last longer.


Does make me wonder what they expect the life time of the machine to be when they design and build it. Probably till warranty runs out.

The ol' 'lifetime warranty' thing is a bit of a trap. You only have think of tools with a 'lifetime warranty', yes some have a true 'lifetime warranty', but if you read the fine print on most, you'll find otherwise. A lot of manufacturers consider only a few years to be a lifetime! It all comes from the integrity of the metal in question, and the way it is utilised.

So yeah, it could be until the warranty runs out. How many mobile phones seem to die at the end of the contract? Coincidence???
