Greetings,
Follows are a small collection of Victas from a deceased estate - now belonging to the Museum near Bordertown, SA (drop in some time - lol cheers2).
I sent them to Bruce but not sure if he received them or not. Hopefully this will save him the trouble. The dates on the mowers are not mine , and they may be off a bit.

Others to follow soon. I have all these on my PC due to being the newsletter editor and being interested too!! I have more of my own to photograph as well and these will be on soon as well.
I am off to the WA early next month (Sept) to visit the NHMA engine rally and then 10 days bus touring - will snap those mowers I see over there.

Hi Stationary, a nice collection of Victas there, mate. I can't wait for the Victa gurus here to come in and tell us what models they actually are...apparently it's all in the detail. grin
Thanks for posting them, mate.
cheers2

Yes i thought the years looked a bit off, especially the third pic, is that a model 2?

I believe the only mower released by Victa in 1952 was Mervin Victor Richardson's prototype, and i think that was late 52.

Cheers
Ty

Can't quite tell by the picture. It does have a Model 2 muffler, but that looks like a High hat pulley from a Model 1.So it's to hard to tell from that angle. Either way it has the wrong wheels on it,but Snap!! that looks like a Model 2A.

Stationary, Personally I would date those mowers as so:

1) 1962-1963 Victa 506 Ambassador 4-stroke
2) 1957-1959 Victa Model 5 18" Special
3) 1956-1957 Victa Model 2 Rotomo 18"
4) 1957-1958 Victa Model 2a Rotomo 18"
5) 1967-1968 Victa 543 160cc Corvette 2
6) 1963-1964 Victa 509 Utility

I think some of the dates there are quite far off, others are much closer, or correct.

With many of them, the serial numbers on the engine can really help out, if you would like to post the serial numbser for us, we can tell you alot more about them.

Cheers

Is the ambassador a side throw???

I might be able to help you out with a catcher for the Corvette.

No, I'm pretty sure the ambasador should be a rear outlet, with the removable side gaurd for edge cutting.

I think the rear chute is just obscured bu the engine in that pictue, you can make out the slightest difference in height if you liik along the edge of the engine.

That Corvette migh well be one of the early plastic catchers too, Loking at the stubs, it could be either way, what catcher do you have that you were thinking Bob?

Plastic one.

I got one for mine, hook onto the handles each side, and i also got another one as well.
I also have a green one but its very weathered and looks brittle.

I do have a steel one here, its a bit sad with rust but it would be good for on an unrestored mower. Possilby off a cortina maybe??

The steel one could be either cortina, corvette, or possibly a few others.

Can you put up a photo of the catcher you have for the above corvette, I can tell you if it will fit that particular base.

Gooday Ty,
Found the serial numbers for the 6 mowers at out museum as per your post.
1. 1962-63 Victa 506 Ambassador 4 stroke --- Missed that one - but date pretty sure.
2. Model 5 Rotomo Special --- 1185591
3. Model 2 Rotomo 18" --- 44839
4. Model 2a Rotomo 18" --- 102882
5. 1967 Corvette 543 --- 56951387
6. 1963-64 509 Utility --- 5952932
There is also a self propelled mower been added behind my back - the swines!!!
Serial number of this is 6671547 (which is VERY close to that Bitza we have just posted about). No photo yet to confirm - will have to do this after I get back from WA.

That puts the corvette at 1969, and a model 563, while these often had the plastci name plate, they were still seen with the older stile metal one, as yours does.

The Utiltiy seems to be using the old serial system, which would make sense, as it was made during the change over period, from that i would gues it was one of the earlier ones of 63.

The serials for the Model 2, 2a & 5 are beyond my scope, however Jeffery will be able to give you more details from thise ones when he comes on.

The serial for the self proppelled would make it a 67 model, and as 67 was a crossover, I would need to see it to be able to tell you more, however, here is the image i have,I beleive the 548 is pictured.

The engine numbers are spot on for the Model 2,2A and 5.Wow the Model 2A has the original engine. The motor alone would be worth $500.Wow it's getting hard to find an original 2A engine.

The 2a looks to be in very nice condition all together, I believe that's the correct muffler, and how about the air filter?

Yes it has a Model 4 base and the engine number should be correct for a Model 4.

Yes that it a Model 4 standard. It really shouldn't have the the special badge. That is incorrect. It could have the Automatic badge on it,and that would be right.Yes the engine number is right for the model 4.

The Model 4 was sold as a 'plain jane' mower as well as the full Automatic mower.

Model 4 Standard was sold without all the extras that the Auto had.
