bruce i checked the fuel tap and jet in the centre of the carbi,also the fuel cap hole,but no real improvement so i will explain in more detail what it does.1.when it is first started it runs and even with full throttle it doesn,t seem to be reving enough.2. after it gets hot it picks up the revs. 3.when you throttle back after its been running awhile,even back to shut down it still revs its its head off and usually (not always) will not stop unless you turn the petrol off.plug is a light grey when taken out.could it be a air leak,thus making it run lean when hot? (sorry my email is getting into a book) bradley

Yes it does sound like you have an air leak. I need you to answer a couple more questions.

1. Have you had the starter off?

2. Have you had the carby off and dismantled?

3. Are you getting any noises comming from the cylinder head area?

4. If you hold the blade plate do you get any movement side to side?

5. Remove muffler and check the piston to see if you have any marks on it.

Answer these before we go further and when you reply please use this link so it is easier to follow the problem.

bruce sorry to take so long to answer, but q1.yes when replaced muffler (recently)also checked piston as in q5. q2 yes to clean and check float. q3.no i believe. q4. no movement. it will start and run but has no guts when opened to full throttle(similar to email from mr madsts problem).when checking mower noticed that the diaphram on cylinder head (with a hose that leads back to the carbi) can be wobbled,checked nut to head its tight,could this be problem?, bradley
