Greetings.
Picked this one up today, basically all there I think , dusty of course as it has been sitting in a lean-to for some years. What muffler did this use?

Looks to me to be from the early 60's, any chance you can see the serial?

The muffler did chand a little from year to year, and the serial will help me peg it down, but it should be one of the rocket style ones, either with the tube, or the fish tail.

Gooday Mr Davis,
The engine number is 6647497.
Are those rocket mufflers available anywhere?? - I need two or three I reckon.
Is that an air filter at the front of the mower, under the fuel tank??
Damn - just busted the cuved hose too. Was very perished. I guess I can find a car hose to cut and fit.

1964 Cortina 2.

The hose is easy to replace, and the mufflers are not too hard to come by (I'll keep my eyes peeled for you)

The hard part is the base, I am headed to a place soon to track a corvette base from the same era, so I will see if i cant find you one without the cracks.

Of sorts, In general, any 1960's Victa gear, that does not go into my own work, is being put aside anywhay, there is always somone who can use it.

The mufflers pop up from time to time, the trick is finding them in good nick!

I am working on the corvette that is very similar to this cortina, It's a 63 model, If i end up with any parts left over, those are yours too!

That seems to either be a different year, or has the wrong air filter Jeffery.

Blumbly, Yours has a snorkle - whereas mine has the air box under the fuel tank under the front of the cowling. It irks me that you have the correct muffler though. lol
Hey - nice catcher too - I want one of those please.

Mr Davis
Re the broken off pieces of base - if that is Aluminium I can weld new pieces in that (or for that matter steel). I use a Dillon Oxy/Acetylene handpiece with only 4 pounds pressure each, can use a very small flame. I will use this to fusion weld the Model 2 steel base which is crook. Nice bit of infilling and a bit of angle grinder and you wont know it was cracked.

Mate, That sounds good to me, If you run into trouble, let me know, and I will hunt you down a new base, But if a base like that can be saved, thats just one more that wont get tossed out, which is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Alwil,
That's a nice one there mate, Glad to see some more restorations from the early 70's, Especially anything running a Series 70 MKI, II or II engine, with a good old G3 carby!

No chance you have that ones serial noted down? I can see it, but i cant make it out!

Mr Davis , sorry don't have the number , bit slack on paper work , don,t have the mower anymore either , sold it a couple of weeks ago , sorry to see it go but I believe it has gone to a good home , the buyer was over the moon when he saw it !!!!!!
To me it was sad to see it go as it was as new but I'm afraid I'm running out of storage room ,so letting my late models go , would love to have a big property to store them but that's the price I have to pay to live in the area I love .
ps. those stickers are home made ,victa one was taken off victa's home page , my daughter printed the cortina one , both are just printed on glossy photo paper and laminated , will not last out in the working world , but most of my mowers are just for show ,(but they all work ) Al

Not to worry Alwil, and now that you mention it, I recall this ones ebay listing, I myself was very tempted by it!

From the picture, I would guess 1973.

At the time I was saving for my rotoscythe, so all money went to rotoscythe, rent, or occasionally food!

Sorry to hear it went so low, I do wish more people out there had respect for the early 70's models!

Cheers
